Pre-Posting Spousal Employment Training
HEF is pleased to announce its ongoing pre-posting spousal employment courses which are offered to spouses and partners of employees who are being posted abroad this year. A posting confirmation form is not required to register however registration is limited to those spouses and partners who are being posted this year.
Employees and spouses are encouraged to contact the mission in order to determine employment possibilities. The staff positions in the consular and immigration programs are often occupied by locally engaged staff (LES) and are paid at LES rates. Please note that although spouses may have completed these courses, they must also be successful in the staffing process as the merit principle must be adhered to in the selection of candidates.
Spouses who are considering working at the Mission should become familiar with chapter 10.4 of the Human Resources Management Manual (intranet link) on spouses and dependants:

Registration
register for the course, spouses and partners (or employees on their behalf) must register on-line before the deadline at www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/cfsi-icse/site/Temp/Pre_Posting_Briefing_en.htm Spaces are limited and registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Cancellation
If an insufficient number of participants register, the course will be cancelled and registered participants will be notified via e-mail at least two days before the course.
Withdrawal
If your plans change, please send an e-mail to hef@international.gc.ca to release your space to someone else.
Waiting List
If the course appears as full when you register and you would like to be on a waiting list, please send an e-mail to hef@international.gc.ca indicating the date of the briefing you would like to be wait-listed for. We will contact you as soon as possible if a space becomes available.

2008 Pre-Posting Spousal Employment Program
Basic Consular Training (5 days)
Some missions hire locally engaged staff to fill consular positions for short term and long term contracts. This course will help participants become familiar with consular functions in the field of assistance to Canadians in distress abroad and on the international and Canadian legal framework of consular duties. Enrollment is limited.

Immigration Course (2 days)
Many missions hire locally engaged staff to work in the immigration section for short term and long term contracts. Job opportunities in the Immigration section vary from mission to mission. This course is intended to increase participant’s knowledge of immigration activities by providing a general overview of overseas immigration operations. This will include a general discussion of eligibility and admissibility criteria for all immigrant and non-immigrant cases, as well as the standards by which the decisions are made.
