The annual FSCA Gala took place on December 13, 2007, in the elegant Panorama room of the National Art Centre. In keeping with tradition, this event featured great food, music, speeches and raffle prizes. Music by a jazz combo set the early tone of the evening as guests arrived and mingled. We had the pleasure of having the famed opera singer, Madame Nathalie Choquette, as our guest of honour. Both Deputy Ministers and their spouses attended this festive event and shared their warm wishes with the guests. Gisèle Samson-Verreault, Mr. Craig Weichel, PAFSO, President and several ambassadors were also among the many distinguished guests.
After dinner, Madame Choquette regaled us with tales of her life as the child of a diplomat, and later as a performer, traveling all over the world. It was obvious to the audience that she remembered very well the issues affecting the Foreign Service community. Many of the people attending took the time to comment on the fact that, even though we think times have changed, the challenges facing our community have not changed much at all. A raffle draw followed, with lucky winners receiving prizes donated by our sponsors. The evening continued with dancing to lively music until the wee hours of the morning. An event like this happens only with the cooperation of many volunteers and countless hours of work. A big thank you goes out to all those who dedicated their time to organizing this event and to our generous sponsors; without them, this evening could not have taken place.
