Dear members,
I have been overwhelmed by the news of the loss of life and devastation suffered by the victims of the terrible natural disaster in Southeast Asia. The big question, which I have discussed at great length with the FSCA committee members and spouses, is: How can we help in a meaningful way?
There are several non-governmental organizations doing their best job in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and India to alleviate overwhelming and immediate needs. We were concerned about finding the best agency to ensure that our contribution will have the most impact in the areas of greatest need.
After much research, we found that OXFAM Canada (www.oxfam.ca) is concentrating their efforts in hardest areas of Indonesia (Banda Aceh) and Sri Lanka (Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Killinochi, Mullaitivu, and three other districts) and helping with urgent needs of water supply, purification & sanitation (eg. buckets with tap, installing water tanks, latrine plates, chlorine, mosquito nets etc) and temporary shelter.
Therefore, we decided to move ahead and sent our donation of $500 to Oxfam on the behalf of entire FSCA community.
Thank you, as always, for your great support. If you have already donated elsewhere, bless you and thank you for showing spirit of support and help.
All our best to you in this New Year,
Vivek Sharma
