Education Committee

By: Jennifer McCrae-Logie

The Education Committee exists to act as a resource for spouses and children as they pursue their education and advance their careers in changing and often challenging circumstances. When the FSCA asked me to be serve as Education Coordinator, I accepted enthusiastically because education is my passion.

Are you familiar with your child’s educational rights and privileges abroad? Are you wondering what the educational opportunities will be for your children on your next post? We can put you in touch with people who have been in a similar situation and have some knowledge in this area. Are you a spouse who needs to upgrade your language skills or improve you computer skills? Are you interested in learning about professional training programs? There is a wealth of resources available in the Ottawa/Gatineau area including reasonably-priced programs.

Do you know any children of FSCA members who have successfully completed at least one year of university or community college in Canada and are entering a full time program next year at the undergraduate level? They would be eligible for a $300 bursary offered by the Education Committee. Applications should be submitted by January 1, 2005. The winner will be chosen in a draw. Very few applications have been submitted to date, so your odds are terrific!

If you have any ideas for the Education Committee or would like to volunteer to help organize a conference on educational opportunities and resources for FSCA members then please contact me at jenlogie@sympatico.ca. We would look forward to your input.
