20th Annual Art Show

The 20th edition of the FSCA art show was a resounding success. It is a source of great pride for the Association each year to put on a show of such high calibre. It provides an opportunity to showcase the artistic talent and creative energy of our members, their families, employees of DFAIT, and the diplomatic community; also, the opening provides a great occasion to see old friends.

This year the FSCA art exhibition took place from April 16 to 18 in the Skelton Lobby of the Pearson Building. A most welcome innovation this year was the presence of the Lisgar String Quartet, which provided a lovely musical backdrop to the show.

The Secretary of State, the Honourable David Kilgour, officially opened the show for the second year in a row. International Trade Minister, the Honourable Pierre Pettigrew also honoured us with his presence and visited the exhibition. Among the many guests who attended the opening, were several Ambassadors who purchased works of art, senior officials, Mrs. Donate Lavertu (representing the Deputy Minister Gaëtan Lavertu who was travelling), Mrs. Suzanne Laverdure (representing Claude Laverdure) and FSCA members and supporters.

This year broke all records both for number of artists showing and the number of people at the opening reception and number of works of art sold.

The art show committee, chaired by Patricia Lortie, and consisting of Tova Lynch, Ellie Clarke, Louise Olivier and Ted Johnston, did a terrific job. Given the unprecedented interest in participation in the show, the Committee formed a jury to determine which artists would be selected for the show. The jury selected a wide selection of art and artists, reflecting a broad spectrum of artistic endeavour. We are pleased so many members participated in the show and visited it during its short three day run. One of the suggestions is that the show last a little longer next year to accommodate all those who wish to attend.
