FSCA Annual Art Show

The Foreign Service Community Association (FSCA) annual art show and sale to be held in November 2008, in the Skelton Lobby of the Lester B. Pearson Building.

The show is open to all artists in the foreign service community and also welcomes members of Ottawa’s diplomatic corp. Now in its 24th year, the show attracts over 25 exhibitors featuring works in a variety of media including oil, water colour and acrylic paintings and photography. Three dimensional works such as ceramics or statuary are also shown.

To ensure a high calibre of work this is a juried show. Applications must be received by the FSCA on or before August 15 (TBD). Successful artists will be notified of the jury’s decision no later than September 10 (TBD).

If you are interested in exhibiting your work, please complete an application form and submit it to the FSCA office in the Services Centre (SERV) either in person, or by email to fsca.acse@international.gc.ca. Exhibition hours:
Wednesday, TBD, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Friday, TBD, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

PARTICIPATION

Open to members of the foreign service community over the age of 18.

Members of the diplomatic corps in Ottawa may be invited and participate in a limited number if there space permits. Please register before TBD

All artists are expected to be present during the opening, and to be available during the exhibition.

PARTICIPATION FEES

FSCA Members: $ 50
Non-Members: $ 100

ARTISTS SELECTION

As space is limited, the maximum number of artists allowed will be: 25 Artists interested in participating must fill out a Registration Form and submit an example of their work (prefer an electronic jpeg file) and their Participation Fee, before, (TBD) 2008.

The FSCA Art Show jury will meet the next week and confirmation will be sent by TBD.

INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL OF ART WORKS

Each artist will hang or install his/her own works (hooks will be provided); volunteers will be on hand to give assistance if required. Artist set up will begin on Tuesday 8.30 must be completed by 4:00 p.m. the same day. A site plan will be displayed at the entrance of the Skelton Lobby at 8:30 that morning.

All works must be clearly marked at the front with: Name, Title, a Brief description of artwork and sale price.

Removal of artwork will begin on Friday, at 2:00 p.m. and must be completed at 4:00 p.m. the same day.

The FSCA is not responsible for works not collected.

SECURITY

Supervision will be organised and a rotational basis by the artists and volunteers. Nevertheless, neither the Department nor the Association will be responsible for insurance or any damages or loss. The Skelton Lobby is open between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. but will be locked from 5:00 p.m. and 7:59 a.m.

Artists will be required to sign the waiver within the application form, absolving the Association of all responsibility.

DISPLAY AND TABLE ALLOCATIONS

Each artist will have one side of one panel or table. We are unable to have anything fastened to the walls. To better display the art works, tables should be covered. The executive reserves the right to ask participants to modify their display.

ELECTRICAL OUTLETS

One spot per panel will be available. An electrician will set up the lights and install necessary wiring or extensions.

PARKING

Parking is available on a first come first served short term bases at the back of 125 Sussex. There is additional parking at 111 Sussex at your own expense.

SALE

On the Registration Form, artists are asked to submit an example of the work they plan to exhibit: Title of work, brief description of art work, and sale price; also, they must provide with pictures of their art works in JPG format a diskette or CD properly identified with the artist’s name. Biographical information should be provided as well, for inclusion in the catalogue of the show.

Artists may sell their work on the condition that all transactions take place at the end of the exhibition. All works must remain in place until the end of the show.

* The FSCA will charge 10% handling fee on all sales. The fees collected will go to defray the costs of the show.
